Troubleshooting QuickTime 6.3: Conflict with DuoConfigurationService

CNET staff

There appears to be a conflict between Quicktime 6.3 and DuoConfigurationService, a piece of software installed to control the M-Audio Duo, an external USB audio capture device.

The conflict will result in repeated kernel panics after applying the QuickTime 6.3 upgrade. In order to work around the problem, you must "safe boot" your Mac, (hold down the shift key at startup), and use the Terminal command:
  • sudo rm -R /Library/StartupItems/DuoConfigurationService

You can then downgrade to QuickTime 6.2 if you need the use of DuoConfigurationService.
