Troubleshooting OmniPage Pro X: Saving preference problem

We previously reported problems with installing OmniPage Pro X under Mac OS X 10.2.x. For most users, the installation ceases when it is almost complete (generally after installing about 870 of the 890 or so files.)

The two options for a workaround are to either startup in Mac OS 9 to install OmniPage Pro, or dig into the InstallerMaker archives and launch the "OmiPage Pro X English" file using the "Open with Classic" option in the Get Info dialog box. Another option is to log in as the root user, and install from there.

However, when logging in as root to install OmniPage Pro X, you may notice that if you are logged in as a normal user, the software will not let you save any preferences nor does it let you copy Twain plug-ins from Photoshop to its Plugin folder. Fritz Mills offers a solution using the BatChmod utility:

"The workaround I used was to download BatChmod and run it. I told it to act on the OmniPage Pro X folder in the Appplications folder, and to change ownership and permissions for all enclosed files and folders. I changed the owner to Me, with Read/Write, and the Group to Admin, also with Read/Write, and left Others with just Read privileges.

"The reason I gave Group Read/Write privileges is because the unsuccessful install does install most of the files. Before deleting them, I looked at the permissions it had set. Some of the files (and there are hundreds of them) had set the Admin group to Read/Write and others had set Admin to Read only. Not wanting to spend a huge amount of time changing each individually, I made them all Read/Write."
