Troubleshooting .Mac synching: One-way; missing e-mails

CNET staff

Several readers are reporting problems with Apple's recently introduced synchronization capability between Address Book and .Mac.

MacFixIt reader Stefan Schulze writes:

"Now that .Mac address book syncing works, I found out that I can only sync in one direction:

  • OS X address book to .Mac address book works
  • .Mac address book to OS X address book does not work

"Changes to my online address book are just ignored and not synchronized."

Meanwhile, John Senger reports that e-mail addresses are missing from synchronization transfers, while all other contact information goes through properly:

"After syncing everything, not a single one email address made it through from my PowerBook's Address Book to my .Mac Address Book. My contacts' names, addresses, and phone numbers are all there, but there's not an email address to be found."

Other readers are reporting error messages at the very end of the synchronization process; stating "Assertion Failed!"

As a base measure, try repairing permissions using Apple's Disk Utility before attempting to synchronize .Mac and the Apple Address Book.
