Troubleshooting Mac OS X 10.2.x: Naming bugs; not fixed in current Panther DP

There are two "bugs" (dependant on how you deem their severity and compliance with the OS feature set) we've been toying with in Mac OS X 10.2.x

First, when creating a new folder in List View, it should be possible to immediately begin typing the name of the folder. This worked properly in Mac OS X 10.0 through 10.1.5, just like it did in Mac OS 9. With Mac OS X 10.2.x, however, it looks like you can type, but then you can't, as if you had pressed Return (or Enter) immediately after New Folder. It is necessary to press Return, or click the filename with the mouse, before typing.

UPDATE: One developer who wishes to remain anonymous writes "For what it's worth, this problem is not fixed in the developer preview of Panther I just received."

Second, suppose you want to rename a group of files in a folder, viewed in List View. As you click on each filename, some of the files will require one click to highlight the filename, at which point you can begin typing; some of the files, however, will not respond to the first click (they will be highlighted, but the text not selected, as if you had clicked on the icon and not the name) and will require a second click, again directly on the filename, before you can type a new name. This happens with no apparent pattern. Try clicking on a list of files one-by-one a few times to reproduce.
