fsck not working after 10.2.8 (clarification) Yesterday, we mentioned a thread on the Apple Discussions forums that covered an alleged problem with the 10.2.8 update and PowerBook G4 models. Users reported being unable to use the fsck (file system check) utility at startup (via single-user mode). We wrote "They are able to use the OS X Install CD to run Disk Utility, but any attempts to run fsck at startup fail, requiring a hard restart or shutdown." To clarify, fsck itself runs fine -- the issue is that after fsck is finished, any attempt to shut down or restart results in a hang or freeze.

Printer Sharing problems Yesterday we covered two user reports of Printer Sharing no longer working since installing the OS X 10.2.8 Update. MacFixIt reader Ted Conover reported experiencing the same problem, but found that he had to re-add the shared printer (in Print Center on the computer not connected directly to the printer), after which Printer Sharing worked again. Another reader reported that deleting all printers on both the Mac connected to the printer and Macs connecting via Printer Sharing, and then setting up new print queues (first on the Mac connected to the printer, then enabling Printer Sharing, then on the other Macs connecting via Printer Sharing) fixed the problem. Finally, one user in the Apple Discussion thread reports that reapplying the 10.2.8 "Combo" Updater solved the problem.
