More on IOUSB.kext reversion for HP problem; HP working with Apple More readers report that the IOUSB.kext reversion workaround posted last week resolves processor drain and overall system slowdown caused by various flavors of the Hewlett Packard "Communications" software component, installed with some printer and scanner models.

Hewlett Packard's technical team also offered us some insight regarding the IOUSB.kext workaround:

"We have heard that this is a possible solution to the issue; however, we have not tested this particular resolution to the extent that it can be considered an official fix. Currently, HP is working with Apple to develop an official resolution to the issue."

Searching the Trash Mac OS X 10.2.2 does not allow proper in-window searches of files in the trash, always yielding zero results, based on in-house testing and new reports from readers. Scott Rose writes

"The 'search' field that appears in every single finder window does not work properly if the window you're trying to search is the Trash. It always yields zero results. If you take the contents of the trash and move them into a new finder window, then the search works. But if the finder window you're looking at is the trash window, then the search always yields zero results."

Knowledge Base article #107217 notes that if you navigate to a folder via an alias, the Finder toolbar Search field will not find items that are present.

QuickMail Pro Serial Number entry After a number of reader reports on the issue, CE Software's technical support department has confirmed a problem where, under some configurations, QuickMail Pro Client 3.1.1 will continually prompt any user without admin priveleges to enter a serial number.

According to technical support representatives, the problem has been submitted to the engineering department for patching in a future revision.
