Troubleshooting Mac OS X 10.2.2: Alias icon bug

CNET staff

After receiving an inital report from Steven Binder, we have confirmed an innocuous bug in Mac OS X 10.2.2 that prevents folder or file aliases from displaying a custom icon after one has already been pasted. Binder writes:

"Try making an alias of a folder, then pasting a custom icon onto the alias. At this point, you cannot put a new icon onto the alias. If you try and 'clean' the first icon off the alias by cutting and then pasting the second icon onto the alias, it just puts the first icon back."

Pasting custom icons is accomplished by using the "Get Info" command (under the File menu), clicking on the item's icon in the resulting menu, and then using the "Paste" command.
