Slow Retrospect Backups Dan Warne reports extremely slow backups in Retrospect 5 since updating to Mac OS X 10.2.1.

"I'm using the latest version of Retrospect 5.0.205 and a QPS Que-Fire 12x10x32 CDRW. Previously I had been able to get speeds of 140MB/min, now I only get 8.8MB per min."

A discussion thread on Dantz' site is currently discussing the issue.

Internet Explorer 5.2.2 processor usage Manfred Zorn reports unusually high processor usage when running Internet Explorer 5.2.2. under Mac OS X 10.2.1:

"The new version of Internet Explorer 5.2.2 on Mac OS X 10.2.1 increases CPU usage. Interestingly enough while loading a page CPU usage has peaks but is generally moderate. When the page is displayed with no other action (no mouse activity, typing, no Javascripts, no movie) the CPU usage swells to 100 percent. ProcessViewer divides the activity roughly 25 percent for Window Server and 70 percent for Explorer. Going back to 5.2.1 eliminates this strange behavior."

SCSI Magneto Optical support Several readers report that the SCSI Magneto Optical drivers in Mac OS X 10.2.1 are broken. Russel Owen writes:

"One can read all files and write small files, but writing large files to my 650Mb SCSI Magneto Optical drive always fails with an error. Jaguar has no problem with my 1.3GB Firewire Magneto Optical drive. I have seen several other reports of this problem, always with SCSI Magneto Optical drives."

Jim Schroeder of CharisMac Engineering told MacFixIt about the company's stance on including Magneto Optical drive support in the Anubis RAID for Mac OS X.

"We wrote Anubis RAID for Mac OS X basically from the ground up and as a 100% Carbon application. Functionality, such as support for MO drives, must also be rewritten to be supported under Mac OSX. This is no trivial task."
