Synching from Classic Ellis Pritchard was pleased to find that his HandSpring PDA synchs perfectly over USB once Classic is started in OS X 10.1. You need do nothing more than start Classic with extensions enabled and a working Palm/HandSpring setup installed under Mac OS 9.

PPP over Classic works Richard Johnson writes: "Under OS X 10.1, all my Classic applications can access the Internet via a modem with PPP (Internet Connect). Performance is snappy and RealPlayer actually seems to play clips smoother. I noticed Port Reflector has been updated for 10.1 but there does not seem to be a requirement for it now."

Scanner success Matthew Rosen found that, after updating to 10.1, his Artec 1236 USB scanner worked in Photoshop 5.0.2 through Classic. Previously, this did not work. Previously, we posted a similar finding with a UMAX USB scanner.

Startup sound mute works Ivan Ivancin found that, in OS X 10.1, muting the volume mutes the startup sound as well. This did not happen in prior versions of OS X.

Battery duration less in 10.1? Jesper Frydenlund found that his iBook (Dual USB) battery last about an hour less when running OS X 10.1 than when running OS 9.

Update failure on Wallstreet PowerBooks Timothy Thomas reports an inability to upgrade from OS X 10.0.4 to 10.1 on a Wallstreet PowerBook. He has seen several other reports of this on the Forums.

Mac OS X 10.0: Connecting to AppleShare or File Sharing Requires TCP/IP KB article 106262 has been updated to note that, with Mac OS X 10.1, you can now connect to AppleShare over the AppleTalk protocol.
