Our coverage of Mac OS X 10.1.4continues (also see previous one and two):

More on Installing 10.1.4 without prior Security Update We received quite a few follow-up responses to this item. Several users report they were able to install the Security Update via Software Update just fine despite the fact they had already updated to 10.1.4. Others confirmed that using the standalone versions worked also. In addition, Phill Tejada suggested a workaround. He writes: "Make a backup copy of /System/Library/CoreServices/SystemVersion.plist, then edit the existing SystemVersion.plist to change the build to 5Q45 and the OS version to 10.1.3. Next, install the Security Update, the replace the SystemVersion.plist file with the backup. There are no common files between the security update and 10.1.4, so this should be safe."

Startup Disk Preferences Panel faster Several users have reported (and we have confirmed) that the scan that occurs when opening the Startup Disk Preferences Panel finishes much more quickly in 10.1.4.

Multipage PDFs Jamie Purves writes: "The recent update to Mac OS X 10.1.4 now creates one PDF file for multi page documents when you when you choose print to PDF in output options of print menu in updated Word X. Previously a separate PDF file would be created for each page."

Update: Visa Kopu has not had that problem.

G4Port breaks? Russell Crum reports that after updating, his G4Port no longer functions. He writes: "Re-installing the last driver, which worked fine with 10.1.3, did not fix the issue."

Matshita UJDA710 workaround Following up on our report Friday on problems with this drive and iTunes, Mohammad Haque adds: "I made the drive work with iTunes by changing 'UJDA310' to 'UJDA710' in the file 'MatshitaCDR.device-plugin,' which is located in the : '/System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/DiscRecording.framework/ Versions/A/Resources/DevicePlugIns/.' directory"

Language support updates no longer appear in Software Update A number of users report that the language support modules which appeared in Software Update are no longer there after installing 10.1.4. Its unclear to us why. Perhaps they are no longer needed, or maybe they are incompatible with 10.1.4.
