Regarding yesterday's release of Mac OS X 10.1.2 (Build 5P48):

Two MacFixIt Forums threads of interest: Mac OS 10.1.2 is up and 10.1.2: some updated apps are folders.

No cut/paste from Classic to OS X? Two readers (Peter Patten and Irving Kwong) confirm that, after updating to 10.1.2, they can no longer cut-and-paste from a Classic to an OS X application. "I get the spinning multicolor disc and no paste - going from Office 2001 (Classic) to BBEdit 6 (OS X)." Transfers within each OS works. Others have now confirmed this, but a few readers claim that there is no problem here.

VPC? Paul Cohen gets a kernel panic when launching Virtual PC 5.0 under 10.1.2. This did not happen with 10.1.1. Vincent Le Normand confirms this. However, another reader did not see this symptom.

No Canvas 8 printing Tom Bailey saw this note on Deneba's Help page: "Apple recently released the 10.1.2 update to Mac OS X. We have discovered that updating to this version will break printing in Canvas 8.x. This problem will force you into a loop. When you choose "Print", you are sent to the Print Preview screen. When you click on the Print button in Print Preview, you are sent back to the Print dialog, and so on. An immediate solution will not be available until after the holiday break. If you want to print from Canvas 8 our recommendation is to not update your OS to version 10.1.2, until Apple and Deneba have had an opportunity to resolve this."

Sorenson Squeeze Eugene Takahashi writes: "Registered owners of Sorenson Squeeze should contact support@sorenson.com for an update (v1.0.1) which now works with OS X 10.1.2. Also, a support rep told me that 'Version 2.0 will be released in March of 2002. An update may be released sooner.'"

Digital cameras Alain Dumas found that his digital camera (a Toshiba PDR-M70), that was working flawlessly with Image Capture in 10.1.1, no longer works in 10.1.2. "It freezes my camera and I have to remove the battery to get it to work again."

Update: Alain adds: "I fixed my Digital Camera Toshiba PDR-M70 problem with OS X 10.1.2 by switching back the file IOUSBMassStorageClass.kext to the earlier version found on 10.1.1. This file is located in Hard Drive:System:library:extensions: IOUSBMassStorageClass.kext."

John Patterson found that the just-released Microtech USB CameraMate drivers no longer work after updating to 10.1.2. Chris Thomas confirms this. Gilles Brosseau claims that Microtech has temporarily withdrawn this update.

Similarly, Allen Wasserman writes: "The Mircotech ZiO! CompactFlash card reader, which worked so well under 10.1.1 after the latest software release from MicroTech, now fails under 10.1.2 (on my G4 Quicksilver.)." Tom Wang confirms this.

NUTD&C? Benzin Totte found that Now Up-to-Date and Contact freezes when run under 10.1.2. Jim Reese confirms this, adding: "When I attempt to start either from their associated Finder menus, I get bouncing icons for each, but they never display their windows and they do not appear in the 'Force Quit" list of processes." However, two other readers had no problem here.

Settings changed? Will Nelson found that the10.1.2 Update changed his LAN Network settings, requiring that they be re-entered.

What's fixed

iSub problem fixed Two readers (Jan Sunde and Joachim Hartmann) confirm that the update fixes the out-of-sync and related sound problems with iMacs and iSubs. One reader did not find this to be so.

Mute fix Scott Boettcher founbd that 10.1.2 fixed a probem where unmuting via the Mute button would not work.
