Troubleshooting iMovie 3.0.2: What has been fixed; lingering bugs

CNET staff

The Formac Studio DV Pro A/D converter box initially ceased proper functioning under iMovie 3.0.1, with users also unable to launch the Studio TVR x.2 v1.1 application. Formac since released a fix for the problem, but for some users, a low rumbling distorted noise still existed when doing imports. Several MacFixIt readers report that the noise interference problems have been fixed in iMovie 3.0.2. Michael Curtis writes:

"I have just installed iMovie 3.0.2. It seems to fix the problem with my Formac DV/TV box and the motor boat sound. iMovie will crash, however, if I press import and then play on the video, or vice versa. But if I press play on the video and then pause it, then press import and un pause it is OK."

Some users are still experiencing problems when exporting to a QuickTime movie. In Terrell Smith's case, artifacts and command failures occur when using the menu accessible export function. He writes:

  • Click Export, To QuickTime, Expert Settings, hit Export button
  • "Save Exported File as..." window opens
  • To see the bug in full, move this window to the side so you can see the underlying iMovie window
  • Move one of the sliders in the "Save Exported File As..." window. The underlying window breaks up and moves, and "save as" does not work properly.

Most users report increased speed as the most noticeable enhancement in iMovie 3.0.2.
