Troubleshooting iMovie 2.1.1: QuickTime exports; Slick

iMovie 2.1.1 is out. The new version lets you export to iDVD. It also adds performance and stability enhancements.

iMovie fails to export to QuickTime Two readers (Christopher Koveleski and Jim Isaac) report an inability to export movies to QuickTime 5 after updating to the new iMovie 2.1.1. "When I select QuickTime in the Export window, the window disappears."

Update: Jim Block writes: "I, too, found that I couldn't export to QuickTime. However, after removing the Roxio (Toast Titanium) CDV export add-in (named "Toast Video CD Export") from the iMovie plug-ins folder, the export dialogue returned. What's more, the QuickTime export formats include a CDVideo export choice so maybe this plug in isn't needed any more."

Julian Cheng got an option called "CDROM movie, medium" rather than "CDVideo."

Slick and iMovie conflict Jim Isaac also found had problems with using GeeThree's Slick collection of transitions and effects with the new update. GeeThree told him that they are working on the problem. Their suggestion for now is to go back to using iMovie 2.0.3.

Update: From the GeeThree site (thanks, Jim Isaac): "Slick Volume 2 requires the Slick Volume 2 Update to work with iMovie 2.1.1 running on Mac OS 9.x. Without this update an error message 'The application is too old to work correctly with the plugin XXX' appears multiple times when you launch iMovie. The update fixes this problem. These new plug-ins are also compatible with earlier versions of iMovie 2 for OS 9.x, but do not work with the OS X version of iMovie."
