Troubleshooting iCal 1.5.1: Events become duplicated

CNET staff

Events become duplicated Edward Norris-Cervetto reports that any events programed into the old iCal to alert the user via both "Message" and "Sound" are adapted incorrectly by the new iCal, which transforms them into an event that will alert the user via "Message" and "Message with Sound".

"The resulting problem is that one gets an alarm displaying the note twice, as the following capture of my desktop shows. This only applies to events programmed before the update to alert the user via both 'Message' and 'Sound.'

Upon further investigating this issue, we found that opening the problematic iCal files in a text editor yields:

  • BEGIN:VALARM
  • ACTION:DISPLAY
  • TRIGGER;VALUE=DURATION:-PT10M
  • DESCRIPTION:Event reminder
  • END:VALARM
  • BEGIN:VALARM
  • ACTION:AUDIO
  • TRIGGER:-PT10M
  • ATTACH;VALUE=URI:Sosumi
  • END:VALARM

This confirms that one alarm is designated for the Display action, and the other for the Audio action.

We are searching for a less tedious workaround than deleting the duplicate entries one-by-one.
