Troubleshooting HP Printers: Use gimp-print to eliminate extra margin

CNET staff

Andrew O'Dell reports that his HP DeskJet 6127 which comes with the 2.1.x driver cuts off half an inch from the top of every page (in other words, if you request a 1 inch margin and you get about a .5 margin).

HP technical support explained this as a known issue, and is directing customers to the open-source gimp-print drivers (which will be an integrated part of Mac OS X 10.3 Panther). The HPJS drivers will also work.

O'Dell writes "For what it's worth, the HP DeskJet 6122 (which is an identical printer minus the ethernet capability) has a newer driver available (2.2.1) which is supposed to fix the problem. This driver will be available for download 'shortly,' but unfortunately this driver is not the same as what's used by the 6127."
