Troubleshooting Flash Player X 7.0d249: Crashes on some Flash content in Safari

CNET staff

After installing the new Macromedia Flash Player X (version 7.0d249), several readers report that Safari crashes when trying to open the customizable Comcast home page (which features Flash animation) and possibly other Flash-enabled sites.

The newly introduced crashes could be due to some of the performance refinements Macromedia made in the new version. Release notes state "Video performance has been improved in the player by 15-70%. Video quality concerning gradients should now be improved."

Deleting the plug-in, and re-downloading version 6 - which is still available from the Macromedia Web site - seems to be the only workaround at this point.
