Regarding our previous coverage on FileMaker Pro 5.5, we have several more reader replies:

EPS issues David Goodison writes: "According to FileMaker tech support, the reason that FileMaker 5.5 running on OS X cannot properly print EPS files is that the EPS graphics translator is broken. The person I spoke with stated that it is 'a known bug; in FileMaker, but added that fixing it did not seem to be a priority. He did not believe that it would be fixed in the next incremental update. When running FileMaker in Classic, EPS files do print correctly."

John Weber could not get the previously posted work-around (going to layout mode, removing the image and then replacing it) to succeed. David Maffucci also had no success with this or any of the other posted work-arounds.

Speed issues Matthew Krecker writes: "FileMaker Pro 5.5 performance improved for us when we turned off FileMaker Server Config (we run FM Server on a G4 running OS X and connect via Ethernet TCP/IP). Out of habit, we always left the Config program on - even though you can't administer the databases from Server Config. When we discovered that FM Server was a separate process from Server Config, and that you can turn Config off and still have the Server running, we decided to see if turning Config off would improve performance. It did, especially when we opened the databases, but elsewhere also.

Success On the other hand, a few readers (including Bailey Walker) are seeing none of the reported problems (Bailey was using a Epson Stylus Color 740).
