Eudora Pro Tech Support Page offers troubleshooting advice The Eudora Pro for Macintosh Technical Support Page lists several problems and solutions for this software. Here are three that we found of particular interest: -8738 error when launching Eudora There is a bug in the current Eudora 4.3 installer. It causes Eudora to quit with an error of -8738 on non-English versions of Mac OS. They recommend downloading the 3k patch that will fix this error. [However, Göran Sonesson tried the patch and could not get it to work. His Mac crashed as soon as he launched the patch program.] "No ads displayed" error This error occurs in Eudora 4.3 and is fixed in 4.3.1. For those using Eudora 4.3 who have not yet updated to 4.3.1, the page notes a 4.3-->4.3.1 patch. Eudora unusually slow in Mac OS 9? Are you experiencing lots of disk access when switching into the application, or right before a network connection? Chances are you're experiencing a slowdown caused by the Network Setup Library in Mac OS 9. Starting with OS 9, Eudora is forced to read the TCP/IP and OT/PPP settings from this new library. On some systems, this library ends up thrashing the disk and taking a long time to give Eudora the information it requested, and can lock up your machine for a few seconds. Wapp pro conflict? Mike Cohen found a conflict not reported on this page: "I was unable to enter the registration code for Eudora 4.3.1 because the Payment & Registration option in the Help menu didn't work (see previous item). I found that the problem was caused by Wapp pro 2.5. Removing it allowed me to register." Crash on launch C. Posey and and Joe Wojdula both report crashes (Type 3 error mainly) on launching Eudora 4.3.1 immediately after installing the update for registered users of 4.x. Obviously, not all users have this problem. Another reader with this symptom found that activating the "Network Setup Extension" fixed it. Henrik Nilsson suggests it might be due to "old plug-ins" that were not removed when updating.
