Build discrepancies There are two builds of Canvas 9 circulating: 678 or 681. You can check your current build number by selecting "About Canvas" from the program's application menu.

If you are using the earlier build, download the file again (the latest build) and re-install. You will also have to delete the following files, which are taken from the Canvas "data" folder, renamed and moved to Username/Library/Preferences/Deneba:
  • CVApDATA.set
  • CVPalettes
  • CVULG.set
  • User Dictionary

Move these files and the Canvas 9 application folder to the Trash and empty the Trash to completely remove your existing Canvas 9 installation. You can then reinstall build 681.

UPDATE: Scott Lasley points out that you can also use the "Check for Updates..." item in the Help menu in Canvas to update to the latest build. He writes "I did this, and Canvas updated to from build 678 to build 681 automatically."

It is not clear if this easier method (which does not require deleting any files) resolves some of the troubleshooting issues that can be fixed with a re-install.

Installing on multiple-user systems Several readers are having trouble installing Canvas 9 on a multi-user Mac. If you tell the application to install only for the current user, others can't run the program but if you turn on the option allowing multiple users to use the app, it will not install correctly.

The solution for this issue is to search for a file named Canvas9.reg and delete the file, then re-download the installer and re-install.

Canon ScanGear problems Some users who are able to successfully use the ScanGear software (Canon scanner Photoshop-compatible plugin) with Canvas 8 are having problems with the same set-up and Canvas 9.

Users report that while they can see and select the acquire plug-in (In Photoshop, use the "Image" menu and navigate to Acquire Plugins/ScanGear CS 7.0.1S), as soon as the Canon acquire window opens, Canvas 9 crashes. These crashes occur even with the 681 build.

Selecting the right DPI (dots-per-inch) for TIFF files Some users are noticing that the function 'Place Image' a TIFF Canvas 9 always does so in 72 dpi, even if the picture involved is 150 dpi or some other setting. However, double-clicking the same TIFF in the Finder Canvas 9 starts up and shows a dialog explaining the actual resolution of the picture, and provides an option to select the desired import resolution.
