Troubleshooting AppleWorks 6.2.7 (#3): Remote file corruption

CNET staff

MacFixIt reader Stephen G. Butler describes a remote networking file corruption problem that appeared after upgrading to AppleWorks 6.2.7:

"We are running a managed lab of iMacs and having huge problems with Appleworks. The iMacs are managed through NetInfo to a Mac OS X 10.2.5 Server. The iMacs are running Mac OS X client 10.2.5, and AppleWorks 6.2.7.

"Randomly when students save their work, the next time that they try to open the Appleworks document they get the following message 'That file appears to be damaged and cannot be opened' This means that after 1 week of work they might have to start over, and there isn't any way to know if they are going to run into the same problem or not."

Apple Knowledge Base article #88118 describes a problem where documents saved directly to an Apple File Protocol (AFP) file server, like your iDisk, from the Public Preview of AppleWorks for Mac OS X may become unusable. However, this issue was purportedly only existent in AppleWorks 6.1.

If you are experiencing this issue, try saving your documents to the computer's hard disk first, then copy them to the remote location.
