Troubleshooting Apple Hard Drive Updater 1.0 for Mac OS X: "Low Power Header"
"Low Power Header" Some users are getting the mysterious message "Low Power Header" with accompanied by a "Low Power Warning" after applying Apple's Hard Drive Updater 1.0 under Mac OS X. One MacFixIt reader experiencing this problem writes:
"Since it's an AC desktop computer plugged into a surge protector and there is no power shortage (not even a brownout), what could be low in power? The internal battery? Everything seems to be working fine."
Drive failure after time While most reports of problems with the Apple Hard Drive updater indicate instant failure after applying the update, other readers say that their IBM drive suddenly fails after a few days of normal use. Arthur Busbey writes:
"On Monday, June 23rd, I applied the feared Apple Hard Drive update and the Deskstar was detected and the drive firmware was updated. My system rebooted and all was fine. In fact, for various reasons, between Monday and Friday (27 June) I had to reboot the system 3 times (that I can remember). There were no problems and they were all soft reboots.
"While trying to hook up an external USB device, I received a constant spinning beach ball. I tried to SSH into the computer but SSH would not respond. I then used the front panel switch to restart the computer. For nearly 5 minutes all I saw on my LCD was a white screen - finally it started booting into Mac OS X 10.2.6 and once running I noticed the Deskstar drive had vanished. I have now tried to use it in several other machines - all it does is make the clicking sound representing the head being moved over and over and over. The drive does not show up in any utilities I have tried.
