Trash can won't stay put (and other tidbits from the Info Alley)

Trash can won't stay put The June 18 Info Alley offers the solution to a problem in System 7.5.x where the Trash can icon keeps reverting back to a location other than the one you moved it to - after you restart. "The most likely reason for this would be that the System Folder is protected. Look at the control panel, General Controls, and see if 'Protect System Folder' is checked. If so, un-check it, move the Trash icon to where you want it and restart. After the computer has restarted, you may re-select 'Protect System Folder' and the Trash icon will stay where you have placed it."

I have gotten occasional reports of Trash can icons that remain "bulged" even after everything has been emptied. I wonder if this "protection" might somehow be involved here as well.

Other tidbits The June 19 Info Alley has several interesting tidbits. One article covers how to avoid stuttering of movies played in Avid Cinema. Among other things, it suggests keeping the disk cache at 96K or lower and avoiding Mac OS 7.6.0. Another article covers a odd conflict among Now DateBook Pro, Balloon Help and Energy Saver - where opening Energy Saver generates an error message stating "could not handle to help menu." Work-arounds are provided.
