TPG brings unlimited data to NBN users with new plans

As the roll-out of the National Broadband Network continues across Australia, TPG has announced a number of new internet and home phone plans targeted specifically at those with access to the NBN.

The plans include bundles for Standard Speed NBN (download speeds of up to 12Mbps) from AU$59.99 per month and High Speed NBN (download speeds of up to 100Mbps) from AU$89.99 per month. All plans include a Wi-Fi router, home phone line rental and unlimited data, and no lock-in contracts.

Speaking about the new plans, TPG general manager Craig Levy said they were "simple and appealing for both low end and high end users" and the offered some of the "best value" in Australia in terms of NBN plan pricing.

According to Levy, TPG customers on the NBN plans will get the benefits of extensive infrastructure owned by the company.

"The reason TPG is able to offer these new plans at market leading price points is because of the group's substantial telecommunications infrastructure," he said. "We own fibre connecting to NBN's points of interconnect. We own the inter-capital bandwidth following our recent acquisition of AAPT. We own the undersea PPC-1 submarine cable system connecting Australia to the international internet.

"With domestic peering arrangements with Telstra and Optus and one of the largest fixed voice networks in Australia, we are in a privileged position to bring extraordinary value to consumers."

The plans were announced following the release of an updated Statement of Expectations from the Federal Government last week, detailing a "multi-technology approach" for the NBN that will see a mixture of fibre to the node (FTTN), fibre to the premises (FTTP), hybrid fibre coaxial (HFC), fixed wireless and satellite technologies.
