Toshiba shows thinnest and lightest tablet and laptop at CES
Toshiba is prepping the world's thinnest and lightest tablet and laptop for CES, and that's just the tip of its technological iceberg.
We're always dubious when a company starts throwing around labels like "world's thinnest" and "world's lightest," but that's what Toshiba is claiming: the world's thinnest and lightest 13.3-inch laptop, as well as the thinnest and lightest tablet, at 10.1-inches wide.
Both of these will be on show at CES so we'll wait until we see the models in question before confirming their crowning glories.
The claims come from a press release translated from Japanese, so there could be something lost in translation. The thinnest and lightest 13.3-inch laptop claim could even be referring to the Portege Z830 we had a hands-on with back in September (pictured at the top of this story). And the tablet could be the impossibly slim AT200 we felt up in the same month.
But if not, they could be variations on these models, or new versions entirely, which would be pretty exciting. The AT200 is just 7.7mm thin. Anything slimmer than that would certainly be worth writing home about.
That's not all that's on show at CES. Toshiba also promises a 'Life Design Box' exhibit, demonstrating how all your kit can talk to each other in the home.
Also on the cards are a waterproof tablet with an "organic EL panel with high brightness," and a 55-inch QFHD TV with glasses-free 3D. The translation says "glass-less 3D," but we'll read between the lines on this one. Unless Toshiba has some pretty special technology up its sleeve.
