Today's Buzz (2): MacPac 2.0 beta

CNET staff
Last week, Palm announced a beta release of its new MacPac Version 2. Bearing in mind that this is still "beta-ware," we have received numerous reports of problems. Here's a sampler:
Send data freeze Frank Beacham gets a "consistent and repeatable error message ("Sorry System Error Found Conduit Manager Address Error) and subsequent freeze when attempting to send data to a Palm III. Hans Pang had a similar problem when trying to sync to his Palm Pilot.

Claris Organizer glitches Richard Chang writes that, while he was able to use MacPac 2 to open his previous Claris Organizer data file, the installer moves the old "Instant Organizer" file to the Trash. He adds: "Palm's MacPac 2 does not fix two bugs that existed in Claris Organizer 2.0v2: 1. Using Find to look for an item in the Calendar crashes if the Toolbar is turned off and the monthly calendar is open. 2. Printing double-sided monthly calendars across two pages is messed up. The two pages from a single month are on a single sheet of paper back to back instead of being on two sheets of paper on facing pages."

Mac and PC Finally, Julius Sarkozy notes that the MacPac Read Me files recommends not to use this beta version if you sync your Pilot between both a Mac and a PC. Duplicate records can result. This should be fixed in the next beta.
