Time Synchronizer: a cause of -41 errors and occasional crashes on some Macs?

CNET staff
Dennis Brun writes: "I have found that the Mac OS's Time Synchronizer extension is the cause of -41 errors and system crashes on my Mac. Removal of the Time Synchronizer extension solved this." We have had a few other similar reports but have never seen this symptom on any of our Macs. Dennis describes one example of a crash: "It occurred using Retrospect 4.x. In this case, a 'Scheduled Recycle' backup would stop reading the source disk some time during the process of backing up. If you tried to stop the backup process, the system would crash. If you then reboot and run the same backup manually, everything worked fine. Again, disabling Time Synchronizer eliminated the problem." The Time Synchronizer extension is what lets you automatically adjust the time for Daylight Saving Time and synchronize the time with the network time server. Update: Don Carver counters: "Removing the extension did not work for me. My problem was solved by trashing the Finder preferences file, and ultimately placing a fresh copy of Finder from the install CD."
