Time for virtual cookie decorating

If you love to decorate holiday cookies, but don't care much for cleaning up those sticky icing tube tips--or even eating the finishing product--take a look at this site.

"Old-Fashioned Christmas" lets you virtually decorate holiday cookies with different colored icing and then send them out in an e-card format. The Flash-based tool is amazing realistic--the icing skips and blobs on occasion and is appropriately imprecise. There's even holiday music to get you in the spirit.

The site was designed by Cincinatti-based Sergei Podbereschi, or "Dis," who also created a . Although he works full time as a Web developer for the Hubert Company, he designed the cookie and pumpkin projects just for fun in his spare time. They, along with other Flash projects, are posted on Theoworlds.com.

"I had an idea in mind--like making a realistic carving or icing, and I knew it will be difficult to do. So I challenged myself to do it. It's a good way to learn," Podbereschi said.

Both projects took him about a month to create, and involved much more than coding, he said. The cookie-decorating site, for example, involved cooking gingerbread cookies and visiting antique stores, he said.
