Time change bug and Adobe CS applications: Photoshop preferences corrupted

CNET staff

Over the past few days we've been covering a bug -- affecting both OS X's Mail application and Adobe's CS apps -- that occurs if there is a time discrepancy on the computer due to the transition back to Daylight Standard Time. In the case of Mail, the bug manifests in Mail dominating CPU usage for approximately half an hour. In the case of Adobe's CS apps, the issue is that the applications simply won't launch. (As we noted previously, Mail only seems to be affected the day -- actually only one half hour of that day -- of the time change.)

Some users of Adobe CS applications have found that resetting the computer's time zone to the proper zone (in Date & Time preferences), or changing it to a different zone altogether, fixes the issue. Reader Tom Hohmann reports that neither solution worked for him, but he eventually found a solution:

"Photoshop was hanging 90% into the launch and had to be force quit. All the others seemed to be working well, although I couldn?t be sure about GoLive since it had been running since the time change. I checked the Time/Date preference pane and there was no change from where I had it set to, so that wasn?t the problem. Not knowing what to do, I tried trashing the Photoshop preference folder; that worked."
