It is not a single executable file, but a package of files that includes one or more executable binaries. When your computer is started up from Mac OS 9.1 and you double-click on the AppleWorks 6.app file, AppleWorks 6.1 for Mac OS 9.1 opens. When your computer is started up from Mac OS X and you double-click on the AppleWorks 6 file, the AppleWorks 6.1 for Mac OS X Public Preview opens."

Spreadsheet bug Bill DeVille notes a potential bug: "AppleWorks 6.1 Preview 2 would not perform sorts in spreadsheets, running under OS X. Rebooting and opening the same spreadsheet under OS 9.1 worked perfectly."
