On the same day it said it would build its factory in Arizona, Intel introduced three new mobile chips.

The Pentium M 780 runs at 2.26GHz, sports a 533MHz bus and comes with 2MB of cache memory for rapid data access. It sells for $637 in quantities of 1,000. For low-powered notebooks, Intel has released the Pentium M Low Voltage 778. It runs at 1.6GHz and features a 400MHz bus, but consumes 10 watts of power, less than the 27 watts gobbled by the 780. Less power consumption leads to longer battery life. It sells for $284.

The Celeron M, meanwhile, runs at the same speed and features a similar bus as the low-powered chip, but it comes with only 1MB of cache. It also consumes 21 watts. The Celeron M has been the chip inside a number of this summer.

:Price cuts were not announced, but are inevitable. Whenever new chips come out, Intel cuts prices. Otherwise, the older chips would cost as much as the new ones.
