There are warnings from science that the current state of affairs cannot continue. It's not sustainable. And that's the whole point of the February meeting of the American Association for the Advancement of Science. The AAAS meeting opens February 15 in San Francisco.

The theme: "Science and Technology for Sustainable Well-being." The specific topics will include: energy, climate change, HIV, over-exploitation of resources, and poverty. Says the AAAS meeting invitation: "Many of the practices that support the levels of material well-being already achieved are not sustainable in resource and environmental terms."

I get the feeling this meeting will not be a celebration of current events.
