If you read "The Lord of the Rings" or "The Hobbit" by J.R.R. Tolkien, or watched the film adaptations by Peter Jackson, chances are you've imagined what it would be like to live in Middle-earth.

While you and I will sadly never be able to actually live in The Shire with the rest of the Hobbits, these nine vacation properties listed on vacation rental marketplace HomeAway.com bring a little taste of Middle-earth to the Earth we live on. From the beautiful murals of The Shire of Montana to a Bilbo Baggins-inspired Hobbit-hole in the South of France to a modern stone dwelling built into the side of a mountain in the Greek Isles, there are Hobbit-filled getaways in many corners of the world.

"The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies" opens in theaters in the US on Wednesday and in Australia on December 26. It debuted in UK theaters on December 12. So after you watch the finale in "The Hobbit" trilogy, you might want to start planning your trip to visit Bilbo, Frodo and the rest of the gang.
