Last week Microsoft, this week Intel. The chipmaking half of the famed Wintel duopoly plans to spend about $40 million in the next couple of years to expand its presence in the Indian city of Bangalore.

For Intel, it's a relative drop in the financial bucket. But it fits with the company's broader build-up of a global manufacturing and research infrastructure. Outgoing CEO Craig Barrett talks about Intel being a global company with global interests and global customers. Also, he's not shy about dismissing calls to rein in offshore outsourcing as ill-informed.
