The New Yorker Magazine optimized for iPhone
First the famous magazine's cover art was created on an iPhone. Now you can read a generous selection of New Yorker content on an iPhone-optimized site.
The New Yorker on your iPhone? There's not an app for that (yet). Rather, the venerated weekly magazine recently unveiled an iPhone-optimized Web site, making stories, blogs, and podcasts available free of charge.
Specifically, when you head to iphone.newyorker.com on an iPhone or iPod Touch, you'll see the top five stories (updated twice daily) along with links to various other content.
Interestingly, the site delivers app-like horizontal scrolling when you tap through to other content pages (blogs, podcasts, etc.)--something I haven't seen before. It's a nice touch.
Of course, this isn't the first time the New Yorker generated iPhone news: back in May, the magazine's cover art was created on an iPhone using the Brushes app.
One thing you can't do yet is search the New Yorker archives, as you can on the main New Yorker site (which is still accessible--the URL doesn't automatically redirect Safari to the iPhone-optimized page).
