For those still having problems with the AppleScript solution to the Temporary Items folder bug supplied in TIL article #25134 (see also previous MacFixIt item, or search on the term "Temporary Items" for still more links): Alan Ackerman replies: "The problem is broken lines. When I cut and paste the AppleScript from the TIL article to the Script Editor, several line are wrapped and thus broken - and those cause the errors. Where they wrap depends on how wide your Netscape window is, and what the font size is. On my 15 inch screen, when I reduced the font size to 8, none of the lines wrapped, and then I was able to cut and paste and compile it successfully. At my normal font size of 12, 3 lines were broken. You can fix this in any of the following ways: By increasing the window size (if your screen is wide enough) By reducing the font size in Netscape By manually fixing the wrapped lines By inserting option-L characters at the end of the broken lines Michael Czysz and Chris Bailey both found that the script worked when copied from Explorer but not from Netscape, at least with the size settings he was using. The script also does not delete folders that are in the Temporary Items folder (thanks, Chris Bailey and Bill Cheeseman). Bill sent us a revision to the script that should fix this and expects Apple to update the script again as well. We still feel that you are better off avoiding all of these hassles and going with one of the shareware utilities designed to work-around this bug (as cited in the above link). Update: An iDisk public folder from Apple, called appled, has the "Mac OS 9 temp items cleanup" script - as well as Sound Manager 3.6.3. (Thanks, David Freeland.) A later update: Apple has since removed this file. We have no idea why.
