TechTool Pro date modification bug confirmed We previously reported that TechTool Pro 2.5.4 changes the modification dates of at least some files when it optimizes a disk. A reader received this reply from Micromat, confirming the problem: "When TechTool was updated from 2.5.3 to 2.5.4 a minor bug slipped in where some files dates would change to 1904 during optimize. This will be fixed in the next update. When you run the Finder Info check it will recognize this as an invalid date and change it to the current date. That should resolve the issue for you." Meanwhile, Charles Cusumano received word from Micromat that TechTool Pro 3.0 is now scheduled for a June release. The "return" of Speed Doubler? Connectix told Norah Rudin that, after getting many requests to update Speed Doubler so that at least its Copy features could be used in Mac OS 9, "they have decided to bring out a utility that addresses these issues. No date mentioned." Brother printer crash: a follow-up John Donahue replies regarding the Brother printer problem (noted last time): "I had the same problem with a Brother HL-1240. I fixed it by disabling the Brother USB extensions and the Brother background printer extension. It works fine now except that I have to wait for the document to spool before I can continue to use the computer." Meanwhile, a Brother HL-1240/50 printer driver 1.34 update has been released. We do not yet know if it fixes this crashing problem or not. Deleting ILoveYou worm emails from Outlook Regarding the ILoveYou worm (noted last time): Bill Conners describes a method for Outlook 8.2 users to delete these infected emails as they arrive. "Access Inbox Assistant from the Tools menu. Use it to create a new rule based on CONTENT and use JOKE or ILOVEYOU as the key phrase (you'll need to create two separate rules for both cases). Also check the boxes directly sent to me and cc to me. Follow the steps to move it to the Deleted Items Folder. Problem solved."
