TechTool Pro 4.6.1 gains Leopard compatibility, users report success

Update resolves eDrive issue.

CNET staff

TechTool Pro has become one of the first commercial disk/system utilities to gain full compatibility with Mac OS X 10.5.x (Leopard). Previous iterations of the software could cause problems with the installation of Leopard -- the presence of an "eDrive," in some cases, actually causing a prompt to reinitialize the startup drive where Leopard is being installed.

If you created an eDrive with an older version of TechTool Pro, it will need to be deleted and recreated with the new release:

"TechTool Pro 4.5.3 or earlier are not compatible with Leopard. Once  Leopard is installed, then a new eDrive can be created using a Leopard compatible version of TechTool Pro 4. To remove the eDrive, boot to the TechTool Pro 4 disc, go to Tools->eDrive, and click the Remove eDrive button."

The new 4.6.1 DVD can boot Leopard Macs and perform various repairs. Current owners of TechTool Pro 4 can purchase the TechTool Pro 4.6.1 DVD Update for $25.

MacFixIt reader David Burleson writes:

"I have received the TTP4 4.6.1 update CD that has the Mac OS X 10.5.x updates. I have loaded it on an two year old PPC iMac with no apparent issues."
