TechTool Pro 2.1.1 Protection shut down freeze: a follow-up

After our posting last time about a Shut Down Freeze, due to TechTool Pro 2's Protection extension, readers sent in numerous work-around suggestions. Choose whichever one works for you:
"To unfreeze the system was simple - I just clicked on the menu bar clock - the system would unfreeze, the back-up was accomplished and the system would shut down." (Dennis Hibar)

"One thing that I have found that will "unfreeze" it is to either open or close the Control Strip. For whatever reason, this will allow the computer to go into its protection sequence and shut down." (Joe Kimmel)

If I set the TechTool Protection extension to 'Run at startup' or 'Run after x minutes,' instead of 'Run at shut down,' then I can avoid the shut down freeze. (Jon Bird)

"To avoid the freeze, I simply turned the Protection control panel off, but kept both the control panel and the extension in their proper folders. Now, I simply open the control panel, click "Preferences", and click "Execute Now". The Protection tool then gathers its data, and all is well." (Jay Schmidt)

"When Protection is set to run weekly at shutdown, on the seventh day the protection backup runs on every shutdown thereafter. I reported this bug in v2.03 to MicroMat. They said it would be fixed in the next release, but it's still in v2.1.1." (Joe Stankunas)

Most, although not all, readers also concurred that the problem seems linked to having files on a RAM Disk (as we reported last time).
