New issues and follow-ups to our previous coverage of TechTool Pro 2.1.1:

Shut Down freeze Nicholas Young reports occasional shut down freezes with TechTool Pro 2.1.1, if its Protection extension is enabled. I can confirm this myself. Disabling the extension prevents the freeze. David Atkinson reported a similar finding. MicroMat told him: "We've had other reports of this problem and are looking into it. We should have a fix in place for the next update of the TechTool Protection CDEV's."

Update: Don Roberts confirms this bug, but notes: "If there are files on my RAM disk at shutdown time, the shutdown hangs. If I empty the RAM disk before shutting down, it works fine."

Optimization won't work if Directory structure is in the middle of the disk Phil Abel writes: "TTP 2.1.1 refused to optimize my hard disk, giving the 'not enough contiguous memory' error message. MicroMat told me that TTP cannot presently optimize if the Directory structure is at the middle of the disk. They are working on a fix for the next update."

David Ericsson had the same problem. With the help of MicroMat tech support, he too "tracked it down to the fact that my hard drive's directory had found its way to the middle of the drive. After erasing and reinstalling (which put the directory back where it should have been) TTPro optimized the whole disk without missing a beat."

Optimization tip Ken Maytag writes that optimizing on a PowerBook takes much much longer if the Processor Cycling feature is on. Turn off the option and plug in the AC adapter. Then do an optimization of your disk.

Update tip Rick Zeman couldn't update to TechTool Pro 2.1.1 when his original version was on any partition other than the startup partition. He kept getting an error that said "Could Not Compress Resource." The solution was to move TTP to the startup partition.

More praise Not every one who send us information about TechTool Pro reports a problem. Readers continue to praise MicroMat for fixing the problems with the previous version and for adding the new "simple" interface.
