TechTool Lite: Finder damage error? PRAM zap problem?

CNET staff
We continue to get reports suggesting problems with TechTool Lite (see yesterday's coverage, especially the MacFixIt Forums item). For example, Chris Gauch writes:

"I've recently discovered that TechTool Lite 3.01 will report my Mac OS 9.1 Finder to be damaged on my Dual 533MHz G4 (digital audio). To test the integrity of TechTool Lite, I installed an extra Mac OS 9.1 system freshly onto one of my 'scratch' drive partitions, and it reported that Finder damaged as well. This was a Mac OS 9.1 system installed directly from my Power Mac G4 Software Restore CD.

Additionally, zapping the PRAM with TechTool Lite 3.01 caused problems during a restart on my Dual 533 G4. The system would freeze before extensions could load after zapping the PRAM with TechTool Lite. When I did the standard Command Option P R to zap the PRAM, everything was fine - no freezing or hang-ups during normal startup in Mac OS 9.1."

Update: We have reports that this erroneous Finder damage error also occurs in some cases with TechTool Pro 3.0.4.
