Tech toys for the holidays

Stumped for stocking-stuffer ideas? Here are a few of my favorite things in 2011.

It's not so easy to shop for "tech toys" anymore--not in the age of the iPhone and iPad, where convergence devices fill multiple needs and 99-cent apps substitute for impulse purchases. Still, there are a handful of amusing--and, in some cases, quite useful--ideas for the shopper who's stumped.

Some are obvious--the Kindle Fire and Nook Tablet are extremely affordable, although at $199 and $249, respectively, they're hardly impulse buys. How about a video camera racing car, then? Or a cheap streaming-video Roku box ? Or, an arcade cabinet for your iPad ?

Here are my favorites. I showcased a number of these in New York last week at CNET Gotham, but for those who couldn't make it, browse away.
