Take a selfie with wax Mark Zuckerberg at Madame Tussauds

Fans of Mark Zuckerberg can now get up close and personal with the Facebook CEO, along with such celebrities as Johnny Depp, George Clooney, Leonardo DiCaprio, Steven Spielberg, Lady Gaga, and President Barack Obama, just to name a few at the legendary attraction Madame Tussauds.

With celebrities like Madonna, Marilyn Monroe, and Michael Jackson, as well as historical luminaries such as the Dalai Lama, Martin Luther King, and Rosa Parks, included as elaborately detailed wax statues at Madame Tussauds, some visitors might be curious as to why Zuckerberg, along with technology superstars Steve Jobs and Bill Gates, are included in the attraction.

"We wanted to capture the spirit of the Bay Area, and the high tech greats are critical to highlight given the tech advancements generated from leaders in this part of the country," Lauren Fahrer, Cluster marketing manager at Madame Tussauds, told Crave.

"These people changed the world and created technology that changed the tempo of communication," Fahrer said. "They changed the way we communicate, view the world, buy products, conduct business and make, create and report news."

More than 800 hours of measuring, molding, sculpting, and painting goes into making each wax figure on display at Madame Tussauds, which prides itself on the level of detail that goes into the clothes, accessories, and even the expression on the subjects' faces. Zuckerberg's wax form shows him sitting leisurely, barefoot of course, in a chair while holding onto his laptop computer. He wears his signature hoodie, T-shirt, and blue jeans.

"People are thrilled over this wax figure," Fahrer said. "Our tech gurus are the rock stars for the Bay Area; entertainers are a close second. Grown men at the press preview were taking selfies with Zuckerberg! It was great fun to see people react in such a positive way."

There's no word yet on whether the likes of Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg, or Twitter founders Biz Stone, Jack Dorsey, Evan Williams, and Noah Glass will join Zuckerberg as waxen tributes, but here's hoping San Francisco gets more opportunities to get selfies with their favorite tech idols.

Madame Tussauds officially opens this summer on June 26 at San Francisco's Fisherman's Wharf.
