System Preferences Access

System Preferences Access We are seeking confirmation for a seemingly rare problem under Mac OS X 10.2.1 where the System Preferences become inaccessible from the Apple menu, but remain linked to the dock. MacFixIt reader Larry reports:

"Since upgrading to Mac OS X 10.2.1, when I select the 'System Preferences' item from the Apple menu, nothing happens. I can open the app from the dock or by double-clicking the icon on the hard drive. If this was OS 9, I would trash the prefs file but I have no idea where to start. I did use Disk Utility to repair the volume's permissions but that didn't help. This is a brand new PowerBook G4 667 with very little software installed and no modifications to the user interface with programs like TinkerTool, etc."

UPDATE: Deleting the file: /Library/Caches/com.apple.LaunchServices.LocalCache.csstore file has resolved the System Preferences Access problem for a number of users. Reinstalling Mac OS X 10.2.x also generally alleviates the problem
