SuperDrive 2.0 firmware update (#3): Only for Matshita DVD-R UJ-835 drivers
SuperDrive 2.0 firmware update (#3): Only for Matshita DVD-R UJ-835 drivers
Although Apple did not make it clear when SuperDrive 2.0 firmware update was released, the company has now posted a message to its support site indicating that the update is only applicable for machines that make use of the Matshita DVD Drive model UJ-835 in the following systems:
- PowerBook G4 (12 -inch 1.5GHz)
- PowerBook G4 (15-inch 1.33GHz, 1.5GHz, or 1.67GHz)
- PowerBook G4 (17-inch 1.67GHz)
- iMac G5 (17-inch 1.6GHz or 1.8GHz)
- iMac G5 (20-inch 1.8GHz)
- Mac mini G4
All other SuperDrive models used in the above models (UJ-825 and UJ-845 included), despite their susceptibility to the same slow-burning issues, cannot receive this update.
You can check which drive model you have by opening Apple System Profiler (located in Applications/Utilities) and navigating to the "Disc Burning" section under "Hardware." The drive model will be listed at the top.
If you have a model other than the UJ-835, you will receive the message "No devices were found that require this firmware update" when attempting to run the update.
