Have you ever bought one of those cheap pairs of sunglasses that radically changes the hue of the world around you (or tinted glasses to look more like Gary Oldman as Dracula)? That's kind of what Tens reminds us of -- although considerably more effort has gone into making them.
They're described by their eponymous Edinburgh-based creator as "the real-life photo filter", and, well, that's a pretty apt description. When you put them on, the world around you is bathed in a Polaroid-like warmth.
"Tens is defined by the idea of filtering the things you see through our custom, sense-heightening lens tint," the team writes on its newly launched Indiegogo campaign. "Whilst typical sunglasses block out the light with desaturated, cold colours, Tens work with the warmth of the sun to lend an uplifting tint to the world beyond the lens."
The scratch- and impact-resistant CR-39 plastic polymer lenses have been coated with UV400 protection, which blocks harmful UV rays, as well as a special tint inspired by digital photo filters.
"We focused predominantly on the way the bright sunlight was filtered -- paying close attention to filling highlight colours with subtle [yellows and oranges], adding saturation in the green and blues, particularly the sky tone," Tens co-founder Marty Bell explained to The Creators Project. "In unison this colouring boosts the saturation of what the wearer sees whilst blocking out harmful rays."
At this point, only one style of Tens is available -- but, if the Indiegogo campaign succeeds, the team hopes to expand into a range of styles for both men and women.
