Stuffit Expander 7.0 File Flag Issues

Stuffit Expander 7.0 File Flag Issues

CNET staff

A representative of Aladdin Systems' technical support team offered the following description of a problem where Stuffit Expander 7.0 can accidentally produce invisible, alias-only, or mislabeled archives when running under Mac OS 9. The bug stems from an inability to correctly set a file's flags during compression:

"Expander 7.0 has an intermittent issue under Classic versions of the Mac OS by which file formats that do not inherently contain Mac OS Type and Creator information may be expanded with improper finder flags set. These finder flags can include is Invisible (which will result in the file not being visible in the Mac OS Finder), is Alias (which will result in the file showing up as an alias, and Label (which will result in the file having an odd label).

"The file formats not potentially affected by this issue are: .sit, .sitx, .bin, .hqx. All other archive formats supported by Stuffit Expander could potentially exhibit this issue upon expansion. We are working on a fix which should be available shortly. The current workaround is to either A) use an earlier version of Stuffit Expander to decompress the file or B) boot into OS X and use Stuffit Expander 7.0 there."
