StuffIt Deluxe 5.1 released

Aladdin Systems has released StuffIt Deluxe 5.1. The update eliminates the need for StuffIt Deluxe 5.0.x users to separately download DropStuff 5.1.2 and Expander 5.1.2. The update includes the following enhancements, fixes and additions:
  • Faster file compression and decompression than previous StuffIt Deluxe 5.0.x versions
  • Fixes a bug in StuffIt Expander that would falsely report that StuffIt 5 segmented files had damaged headers when they were rejoined with Expander using any 5.0.x StuffIt Engine
  • Fixes the ability for the Aladdin Compression control panel to close properly through an Apple Event
  • StuffIt Expander can now transparently decode the MacBinary output from Zip archive decompression
  • Adds a "built-in" Text Encoding Converter for the Roman character set

As far as I can tell, the browser corruption issue (recently reported) and the infamous Internet Preferences modification "feature" (see previous posting) remain unfixed in this update.

Expect trouble getting this update to download until the servers are less busy.

Update: Aladdin writes: "Our site has seen extremely heavy traffic for the StuffIt Deluxe 5.1 update. As a result we have received many reports of problems downloading the file from our primary server. Users experiencing problems such as: extremely slow throughput; '-39' or 'incomplete file' errors; errors suggesting corrupt files; or otherwise unable to successfully download the file from our main site should try one of the listed mirror sites."
