StuffIt Deluxe 10.0 (#4): Defective CDs shipping to some customers

Defective CDs shipping to some customers Allume technical support has confirmed to some customers that a limited number of StuffIt Deluxe 10.0 copies are shipping on defective media, and the company is replacing the problematic discs on a per-case basis.

MacFixIt reader John Dalmas is one of the users affected. He writes:

"My copy of the installation CD for Stuffit Deluxe 10 arrived today but the drive in my IBook G4 using OS 10.4.2 (Tiger) kept rejecting the CD. I called Allume tech support and they admitted they have a problem with CDs purchased online through Digital River. They are sending out a replacement CD guaranteed to work at no charge. They also acknowledged the telephone number for tech support listed in the manual accompanying the CD is actually their fax number published in error."

Contextual menu issues solution We previously reported an issue where StuffIt Deluxe 10.0's contextual menu component displays duplicate menu items on some installations.

This issue may stem from the existence of duplicate contextual menu plug-ins -- one in the /Library/Contextual Menu Items folder at the root level of the hard drive, and the other in the ~/Library/Contextual Menu Items (user level) folder. Removing one of these plug-ins will result in resolution of this issue.

If you wish to retain universal StuffIt contextual menu support (present for all users), leave the plug-in in the /Library/Contextual Menu Items folder intact. If you desire the plug-in to be user specific, leave a copy only in your own ~/Library/Contextual Menu Items folder.

Meanwhile, some users are reporting Finder crashes when attempting to access the contextual menu for a stuffed file.

MacFixIt reader John Carroll writes:

"Since installing Stuffit 10.0 on my iMac running Mac OS X 10.4.2, I get a Finder.out message that says 'Got a raw CFM pointer to mach-o routine' when I control-click any .sit file. Finder then relaunches. This always happens."

If you are experiencing a similar issue, please let us know.
