StuffIt Browser conflict with Get Info window popup menu

CNET staff
Dave Kupiec reports an odd conflict between Mac OS 8.5.x's Finder Get Info windows and Stuffit Browser 5.0.2 (installed as part of StuffIt Deluxe 5.0.2) - if you have also installed StuffIt DropStuff 5.1.2 (as well as possibly earlier 5.x versions).

To see the symptom, first double click a .sit archive. With Browser active, this will open up a True Finder Integration window from where you can simply drag the compress file(s) to the desktop, decompressing them automatically.

Having done this, now open the Get Info window for any application on your drive (whether or not it has been decompressed by the Browser). You should find that the Show popup menu is gone! You will only have access to the General choices. The option to shift to Memory or Sharing is gone. To get the popup menus back, you will need to restart. I tried this and found that it happened just as described.

Dave found that if he reinstalled the StuffIt Engine and StuffIt PowerPlug 5.0.2 extensions (rather than the newer 5.1.2 versions), the problem vanished. Also, the problem does not occur if you unstuff the file by using StuffIt Expander or StuffIt Deluxe directly. It only occurs after using the Browser.
