Startup failure after trying to boot from OS X CD on TAM

CNET staff
Tim Corrigan tried booting via the Mac OS X CD on a Mac that cannot run Mac OS X (a Twentieth Anniversary Mac). He describes what happened next: "After a few seconds into the boot, the Mac restarted (chimed), but that's about it - no video, no HD access, etc. [Even after ejecting the CD, the Mac would no longer startup.] I pushed the reset button on the logic board - still failed. Removed the clock battery for 1/2 hr - still failed. An Apple Tech said the ROMs could be damaged, and that I should remove power and clock battery and let it sit for 24 hrs! If that didn't work, then the logic board would have to be replaced. Luckily it fired right up after following their instructions."

Note: We are a bit skeptical that this is a typical result of trying to boot from the CD on unsupported Macs. At the very least, we would expect Apple to warn of this danger in such a case. Still, a word to the wise...
